Uffe Elbæk

In addition to his time as an elected politician – member of Aarhus City Council, member of the Danish Parliament, Minister of Culture and party leader for the Alternative Party – Uffe Elbæk is an entrepreneur in the fields of culture, education and politics. He was the initiator and leader of the youth culture organisation Frontløberne in the 80s, initiator and principal of the KaosPilot educational program in the 90s and 00s. And founder and political leader of the Alternative from 2013 to 2020.

As a columnist, freelance journalist, author and speaker, Uffe Elbæk has been a progressive voice in the public debate in Denmark for the past 40 years. Most recently, he has written his autobiography Et liv (2022), the political essays Tvivl, håb & handling (2023) and the founding story of the KaosPilots: Mirakler i Mejlgade (2024).

The common thread through everything Uffe Elbæk has worked on is: We can do better. And right after that: How can we strengthen the life force in each individual, organisation and society as whole. Today, he is primarily concerned with how we as a society can support the ones building “the new”. All those who – across sectors and industries – are laying the foundations of a new post-capitalist society that respects planetary boundaries.
